As moderator of this community, I just wanted to pay tribute to former Celt, and Motherwell captain, Phil O'Donnell.  Nearly a week after his passing I'm still shocked he's gone.  He will be remembered fondly for always giving 100% despite a catalogue of injuries that would have seen many a less committed player retire long before the age of 35.  A tragically young age to go, and I'm sure we all agree that his family should be in our thoughts today.

Flippin' 'eck- it's quiet here.

I suppose we've only had another title, a Scottish Cup, last 16 of the Champions League, Scott Brown signing, then Chris Killen joining too, Neil Lennon leaving...

And Gordon Fecking Smith in the SFA.

Nothing to write home about I suppose...

And they're out of the Cup for another year too.

Altogether now, to a Certain Tune Beloved of Them :

Ha ha !
Ha ha !
Ha-ha ha ha-ha-ha !

It'll come back to haunt us some time, but half the fun of being a Celtic supporter is having a chuckle when Rangers are struggling, and let's face it - we gave them plenty of ammo back in the early '90s - enjoy it while it lasts, I say.

Oh, and Zurawski scored twice yesterday - has someone had a word in his shell-like, or does he really depend on playing next to a "big" striker that much ? And the reward for a home humbling of the mighty Sons is a nice wee day trip to the shopping centre, errr, Livingston.

"Oh the Blue Room is bare,
'cos there's no trophies there,
and there's no Mr Sheen,
'cos there's f--k all to clean..."

Just in case you haven't seen this yet (Not Work Safe !) ...

... a new manager. PLG now stands for Paul Le Gone.

So Rangers have basically backed Barry Ferguson against Le Guen. What that says about the internal workings of Ibrox I really don't know.

Rangers must be closing in on Hearts for the comedy team title now - they've even started ditching managers :)

... less talent. It's official, PLG says so.

and listen to the Audio interview (RealPlayer needed).

And they're back to the usual Rangers "backs to the wall" performance; a 1-0 away win with a penalty and a 21 player punch up in the penalty area.

You really couldn't make it up.

Subject:Rangers are determined to win something this season ...

... even if it is only the "Comedy Team of the Season" award. The festive period has seen them make a late charge to snatch the title away from the current holders, Heart of Midlothian FC (aka. the Jammed Farts).

Never mind the wondrous performance against Caley Thistle and the superb battling draw with the mighty Buddies, now they're sacking Bazza as captain and appointing Gavin Rae (remember him ???) as captain instead - two days after Rae said he might leave to get regular football elsewhere. You couldn't make it up.

Meanwhile, Hearts refuse to give up their not-entirely-coveted title lightly. 30 or so Lithuanians are apparently arriving at Hearts training camp at Riccarton in the transfer window, Captain Caveman has signed up at Parkhead, Hartley's coat is on a shoogly nail and apparently they're checking up on a Lithuanian keeper, so Gordon might be on his jotters. Watch this space - anything could happen in the next 16 games !

Oh, my aching sides !! :)

Meanwhile, our form still shudders along in not terribly great trim - we're avoiding getting beat, but not playing brilliantly. That said, that stats from the Motherwell game suggest Celtic had 64% possession, the same number of shots on target and more shots off target - so goodness knows what will happen if we start playing *well*. And you know it's come to a pretty pass when the press are lauding a scrappy draw against Celtic (during which they should have conceded a penalty before half-time so possibly down 2-0, got a last gasp goal from an in-off deflection against a misfiring Celtic team who basically stopped playing after about 50 minutes) as a sign of a fantastic recovery in Rangers' fortunes.

I hope we can pick it up a bit from here - Rangers can't be this crap *three* seasons in a row, and Hearts can't continue to implode so spectacularly for much longer - or can they ? Let's face it, there's something fundamentally wrong with the fabric of the universe when the Sheep Worriers are second in the league !

Oh well. Here's to the league title in '07. Normally I'd worry about writing something like that, but when you can ship points to Motherwell and Dundee Utd and *increase* your lead in the league, well...

... humble pie is surprisingly tasty these days !

Since I gave the team pelters after *that* performance last season, it's only fair to post to say that tonight's 3-0 humping of Benfica was one of the best Celtic performances I've seen in a *very* long time.

Looking back at the criticisms I made last season, the back four look pretty good (Naylor's pretty good, Telfer's doing a solid professional job until Wilson's fit again, Caldwell and McManus are still young with a bit to learn but are already a pretty decent partnership) which is doing wonders for Artur Boruc behind them. Sno looks like he could be a fine player if he keeps developing. We've got the best kind of problem - how do you accommodate all of the forward going players and keep them all happy ?

Great to see Pearo getting the last goal tonight - he deserves it for working away and being an excellent player for the team. Hopefully, we'll sort out Shaun's contract so he stays on before much longer as well.

It's a great time to be a Tim !

(On the other hand, there's nae fun in bein' a Hun ! All together now ... "Oh the Blue Room is bare..." ;)

Default An Open Letter To David E Murray
Dear Mr Murray,

It is reported on here from time to time that you employ people to read comments on messageboards like this to keep you informed of Rangers supporters views and opinions.

If that is the case I urge one of your employees to pass this post onto you.

Why have you attracted a Manager of true European pedigree to this great club of ours only to withhold transfer funds which would allow Mr Le Guen to go out into the marketplace and source a couple of top notch players who can make this side a team to be reckoned with.

PLG is obviously getting frustrated by the lack of conviction and "efficiency" in his current squad. I'm sure he will have been told he has limited funds before he accepted the challenge, but, to-date we've spent approx £3m net on transfer fees. Not nearly enough for PLG to build a squad capable of sustaining a league challenge in Scotland and hopefully getting another good European run.

The fact we have to go cap in hand to Man Utd and ask them to loan us a couple of players to supplement our squad is truely a shocking state of affairs.

Yes I'm sure realistic fans know the days of spending £6m+ for a single player has long gone but surely we have more than £3m available in the transfer budget.

I urge you to bankroll PLG as you at last have a Manager who has the potential to devlop an exceptional team, but, he needs the money to do this and it is clear from the initial few games that some of the players he is being forced to play are not just up to scratch.

PLG knows it and the onus is upon you and Martin Bain to enable funds to be released before the signing deadline, otherwise, you are going to waste this great opportunity, as PLG won't stick around too long, especially if one of the big English premier league clubs spot his frustration like many other Rangers fans can see and make an appoach to sign him.

Please don't falter and give it one last push for European glory.

We have a Manager capable of doing it so don't disappoint us and release funds to let PLG make a difference.

Yours Frustrated

Roy Keane has retired!
How is this going to affect the "Hoops"?
And by the way, if anyone is a member of celticfc.net I suggest you download: "Desktop Gordon"- He keeps you up to date with all Celtic News

And he's pretty funny to watch on your screen, he plays with a ball, and he starts to scream and turn red, my favorite is when he takes out his Green and White striped scarf- Which reminds me, I need one...

The story of the season in one game really - loads of pressure, lots of possession, some good chances, a corking free kick from Shaun Maloney, a duff miss from the big pensioner and a howler to keep everybody excited from Artur "yours is a dog" Boruc. David Marshall must surely be in with a shout for next season - but when will we get a really dependable goalie ? It's a position that we've been shaky in for years - what might we have achieved with a keeper as steady as Goram or even Klos (when he was paying attention) ?

In addition to Keane being out, now Petrov is out with a duffed hamstring. Don't know how long for yet though. WGS was pretty hacked with the performance this evening.

Jim Duffy ploughs new depths in his impersonation of an impartial commentator. Give that man a skelp. I think Celtic were playing tonight, but he wasn't going to mention it, and it fair broke his heart to give Neil Lennon man of the match.

And the revolving door down Gorgie way has been busy again, with messrs Rix and Duffy given the order of the boot. The next manager at Hearts will (a) probably be Lithuanian and (b) won't be worried at his name being written on the door in chalk - but the duster next to it will give him the willies ...

Ah well. As Morrissey might put it, a rush and a push and the League is ours ...

Subject:Celtic 3 - 0 Dunfermline (not terribly) Athletic
Posted by:tonyisyourpal.

All fairly straightforward really, although it took a while to get the scoring started as Dunfermline went into "human pyramids on the goal line" mode to stop a repeat of the 8-1 game at East End Park the other week. (And let's face it, we wouldn't want to take the sheen off The 7-1 Game anyway, would we ??? ;) It wasn't really much of a game, mainly because the Pars were so determined on damage limitation from the outset.

Even the big pensioner managed to poke one in at the end, after missing one very good and a couple of decent chances (although the keeper did use just about every bit of his anatomy to keep one of them out). A corking free kick from wee Shaun, who I thought had a fairly subdued first half, too.

Hopefully Keano's injury isn't too bad - he seemed to be walking fairly freely at the end. Apart from that, a good day all round, as the Huns & the Jambos drew 1 each at Tynecastle, which means we're 14 points up in the league with a game in hand. So it could be a title party down Gorgie way after all ;))))))

Yes, you read that right. 8 - 1.

And to add to the misery for the Not Terribly Mighty Pars, Neil Lennon scored. Even the chairman congratulated him for that.

Sean Maloney scored a wonder goal, Zurawski bagged four, and we pretty much strolled it again. There wasn't a lot of intricate wonder stuff - just the simple things done right. You can't ask for much more than that, really, although Artur "don't fancy yours much" Boruc tried injecting a bit of excitement into proceedings by having a howler at the Pars goal to get it back to 1 - 1.

For verily, the Tims have got back to doing a bit of smiting.

And still no word about Paul Le Guen from Castle Greyskull. Apparently Le Guen & co. have checked out about four other jobs & locations before handing back a 'no' vote. Ho hum.

One word ... control.

Celtic pretty much walked it to a win today - they only stepped up the pace when they wanted to.

Keane & Lennon seemed to work fairly well in an unusually sound defensive performance. I won't be surprised if we use these tactics against other teams when we want to protect the back four. With a bit of pace down the wings and up front it could even be effective.

We didn't create much, although Dublin hit the side net late on (I had a wee sneaky feeling he might score - it's been that kind of season).

WGS was delighted with the win, the performance and the clean sheet. Quote of his that summed it all up - "the players played *when they needed to play*".

Whatever, I don't think any of us will be fooled - we've got a lot of work to do for next season, especially for Europe. I think we've been the best of a bad bunch in Scotland this season.

But whatever - 21 today, 21 today ... :)

And Le Guen's assistant lasted less than the first 45 minutes today. Must be looking at a positive write up then ... ;)))))
